corning beakerA Corning beaker is an industry staple amongst laboratory glassware products. And at Macalaster Bicknell Company of New Jersey, we stock three different sizes and types of beakers made of high quality borosilicate glass.

Borosilicate Glass

Borosilicate is made from boron trioxide and silica. The resulting glass has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, resulting in a high resistance to thermal shock. This is an ideal quality for laboratory glassware, because chemical solutions are often repeatedly heated and cooled. The glass is also chemical resistant, which reduces the likelihood for cross contamination.

Beakers can be used for a variety of purposes. Their flat bottoms and cylindrical sides can vary in size, depending on their intended applications.

Low Form Beakers

Low form beakers have a height that is nearly one and a half times their diameter. They can be used to prepare and decant solutions, house simple reactions or even store fluids prior to disposal. Some beakers feature spouts for easy pouring. No matter their shape or size, low form beakers are typically used in some way in most any kind of chemical experiment.

Tall Form Beakers

Tall form beakers have a height that is twice that of their diameter. These are most often used for titration because solutions are less likely to spill over their tall sides.

Flat Beakers

Flat beakers are most often used in crystallization. However, they can also be used as a vessel during hot-bath heating.

Beakers can be made from various metals or plastics, but at Macalaster Bicknell, we only stock those made of borosilicate glass. Graduated beakers feature lines marked on the sides to indicate volume. However, these markers should not be considered precise, as they are only accurate within 10%.

At Macalaster Bicknell, we stock 250mL Corning beaker blanks. The glassware is unmarked and does not feature a lip. A case of 105 pieces can be ordered for $236.

We also stock two kind of 400mL beakers. Although both are unmarked, one is heavy-duty, while the other doesn’t feature a lip. Both beakers can be purchased in quantities of 90.
